Abstract

1,017,293. Strip fastenings. R. A. BRAND & CO., Ltd. April 10, 1964 [April 30, 1963], No. 17015/63. Heading E2S. A closing tool for a releasable fastening of the interlocking strip type, comprises two bearing portions 8, 9 for engaging opposite non-mating surfaces of the strips whereby when the tool is moved along the length thereof, the strips are progressively urged into mating engagement, the bearing portions of the tool being provided on a frame 7 adapted to pass between the strips when separated and being so arranged that they can be urged towards one another to exert pressure on the strips during closing of the fastening and can be separated to enable the tool to be completely detached from between the strips after partial closure of the fastening. As shown, one of the portions 9 is eccentrically mounted on the frame 7 and carries a bar 12 by which it may be moved towards or away from the portion 8. The fastener strips which may be used to close a container of flexible sheet material are connected together at both ends by integrally moulded end stops and the outer strip is provided with a tag by means of which the strips may be peeled apart. The tag is secured in its retaining position by a set screw and sealing wire. The container may be formed from (1) a natural or synthetic fabric coated on one or both sides with a plasticised and stabilised vinyl-chloride; (2) an unreinforced P.V.C. film; (3) a laminate prepared by spraying on to a former, the following layers: (a) a solution of copolymer of vinylidene chloride and aerylonitrile, containing a plasticiser. (b) a solution of a copolymer of vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate, containing a high proportion of plasticiser. (c) a solution as at (b) but containing a low proportion of plasticiser. (d) a lamination of polyethylene on one or both sides of a fabric woven from natural or synthetic fibres.
