Abstract

Yarn feeding mechanism for multifeed circular machine, illustrated in Figs. 1, 2, 3 and 4 (not shown), comprises a number of positively driven rollers 113 spaced in a circular array above the needle cylinder and adapted to engage and positively feed the yarns extruding from the supply bobbins 92 as they pass en route to the needles. Each yarn passes from its supply through guides 97, 100, yarn detectors combined with stop motions 98 and tensioning discs 103. Thereafter it passes through a slit 153 in a guide plate 150 from which it is guided around the whole circular array of positively driven rollers 113 eventually being redirected in its path to the needles by passing through a slit 154 in the opposite side of the same plate, Fig. 3. The position of each yarn in its passage around the rollers is determined by a series of plates 145 and spacers 146 vertically mounted on a pair of rods 144 positioned between each pair of rollers such that the plates 145 provide in effect a circumferential groove in which the yarns are guided in their passage around the circle of rollers. A circumferential groove of this kind is provided for each yarn being fed. The yarn in its passage engages the surface of each roller in turn such that it is positively advanced towards the needles. The rollers are positively driven by a chain 115 engaging a sprocket 113 secured to the end of each roller and also to a sprocket 116 secured to a shaft 117 driven by a belt 120 engaging a pulley 119 attached to the shaft 117. The belt 120 is driven through a variable speed V belt pulley unit 122 on a plate 118 from a shaft 126 coupled to the machine drive 17. A fabric take-down mechanism is mounted beneath the machine and actuated by rotation of the whole take-down unit as it rotates with the needle cylinder.
