Abstract

1,015,841. Paper-making machines. PAPER MACHINE COMPONENTS Inc. July 17, 1964, No. 29305/64. Heading D2A. Paper stock is directed by a slice 13 into a web-forming zone defined by travelling fine mesh wires 26, outwardly disposed of which in the forming zone between breast rolls 21, 23 and couch roll 22 and presser roll 24 are coarse mesh wires 27, porous belts 28 and stationary rigid perforated supporting plates 25. The plates 25 extend substantially the full length between rolls 21, 22 and 23, 24, being mounted on supporting members 19, 20 which are unjustable by means of adjusting members 32 so that the width and shape of the forming zone can be varied. The holes in the plates 25 are downwardly and outwardly inclined and open into a series of suction compartments 36.defined by transverse beam members 35 on the outer surfaces of the plates 25. A suction compartment 39 in the couch roll 22 causes the rolls to travel with the left hand wire 26 (as shown) to a suction pick-up roll 40. The porous belts which may be of flexible plastic material, may be provided with longitudinally extending perforations, the plates 25 with tranverse - ly extending perforations (Fig. 2, not shown) and preferably provide sufficient pore volume to accommodate the entire volume of expelled water. The slice is formed with a throat section 11 and the spacing of the lips 14 may be adjusted by screws 15.
