Abstract

1,014,144. Prefabricated staircases. METAL SERVICE CO. Inc. May 21, 1964, No. 20930/64. Heading E1V. Prefabricated metal stair units comprise two opposed flights 1 and 7 with intermediate and upper landings 3 and 9, the units being supported by tubes 13 and 14. The flights are welded to the landings which are tack-welded or bolted to the support tubes. Bracing members are provided for the landings and support tubes, and spacing members 17 and 27 between the support tubes. Dowels 29 and 30 in the tops of the support tubes allow additional similar units to be placed on top, to build up a multistorey staircase. The landings have transverse channel framing members 4, 5, 10 and 11 which project beyond the landings and are built into the walls of the stair well when they are constructed, whereafter the bracing members may be removed and the support tubes 13 and 14 cut off, e.g., at newel post height, to support balustrading.
