Abstract

1,013,318. Applying electrical conductors to terminal posts. AMP Inc. Aug. 12, 1964 [Aug. 19, 1963], No. 32794/64. Heading B3A. Apparatus for applying an electrical connector clip on to a terminal post comprises a clip pusher actuating means for reciprocating the clip pusher and coupling means therebetween, and the coupling means comprises an overload release coupling and a releasable rigid coupling, the overload coupling being operable when the rigid coupling is disengaged. The clips are fed over the surface 64 of a bar 66 on to a reciprocable slide 52, which lifts the clip on to a T-shaped mandrel 32. A wire receiving recess 34 is located in the mandrel and the wire and clip are guided on to a terminal post by spring clips 50 which are clipped thereon. The apparatus is actuated by a pneumatically operated piston, the rod 84 of which is mounted on a block 90. The slide 52 is actuated by a rocker 60 which is actuated in turn by a spring 91 on the block 90 such that forward movement of the block causes counterclockwise movement of the rocker after the spring 91 has passed the pivot 62. The block 90 also engages a slide block 72 to position the leading clip on the slide 52. The clip is advanced by a pusher 80, which is coupled to the piston-rod 84 by a pair of coupling blocks 86, 88. The block 86 is coupled to the piston-rod 84 by an ear 93 engaging in a recess 94 and the block 88 is slidably received in a channel 96 in the block 86. The blocks 86, 88 are rigidly coupled together by a spring- loaded latch 100 on an arm 102 engaging an ear 98. The forward end of the arm 102 is formed as a cam which engages a fixed block 110 (Fig. 2), to be pivoted so as to disconnect the latch 100 and ear 98 as soon as a clip has been pushed from the mandrel 32 on to the terminal post. A roller 112 on a spring-loaded lever 114 engages in a groove 116 and acts as an overload release coupling. The rigid coupling is disconnected as a clip moves on to the terminal post, but the blocks 86, 88 still move together by means of the overload coupling. Should the passage of the clip be obstructed the latter coupling is released and the block 86 completes its stroke while the block 88 remains stationary. On the return stroke, the rear face of the block 88 engages a surface 74 of a fixed block 76 and is stopped from further movement. The block 86 continues to move until the two blocks are restored to their original relative position. Specification 956,118 is referred to.
