Abstract

<PICT:1012279/C4-C5/1> <PICT:1012279/C4-C5/2> A furnace for cracking hydrocarbons by the direct action of heat produced in the flameless combustion of a fuel mixture consists of a hollow porous cylindrical refractory body situated within and providing an annular space with an outer jacket, said annular space being supplied with a first fuel component via an inlet in the outer jacket, said porous cylindrical refractory body being provided with longitudinal circular channels for separate supply of a second fuel component under pressure, the arrangement being such that said fuel components permeate through the porous cylindrical refractory body in order to make an intimate fuel mixture and effect flameless combustion thereof on the inner surface of the porous cylindrical refractory body into which the raw material to be cracked is injected and subjected therein to a cracking process due to the heat of reaction of the fuel components produced by the flameless combustion. Fig. 1 shows a longitudinal section of the apparatus and the fuel components are supplied through inlet 4 and channels 3, the hydrocarbon feed-stock passing downwardly through reaction space 10. Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view indicating the longitudinal channels provided in the hollow porous cylindrical refractory body.
