Abstract
Method for the thermal decomposition of hydrocarbons, which comprises the use of a reactor to pyrolize hydrocarbons to the state of less saturated hydrocarbons, by mixing with hot combustion gases, and provided with a cylindrical combustion zone to form said hot combustion gases, and of a pyrolysis zone beyond the combustion chamber, and in which the hydrocarbons to be pyrolyzed are injected into the hot combustion gases from the combustion zone, at the junction of both, characterized by the stages comprising the supply of fuel gas and combustion gas in said combustion zone, in the form of several pairs of separate and opposite streams of fuel and combustion gases; each of said pairs includes a stream of fuel gas and a stream of oxidizing gas injected into said combustion zone and forming an angle inclined downwards, with respect to the axis thereof, and with said gaseous streams being cut to form a series of flames prolonged in general axially with respect to the combustion zone; all the mentioned pairs of gaseous streams are arranged in a circle concentric with the longitudinal axis of said combustion zone and having a diameter greater than half that of said zone; regulating the quantity of fuel and combustion gases, to provide a flame front that practically fills the transverse surface of said reactor in said junction of the combustion and pyrolysis zones, inside which the hydrocarbon is injected to pyrolize, and the controlling the relative moments of said separate streams of fuel and combustion gases, to maintain the said flames at the intersection of said gas streams, radially deflected towards the interior of said combustion, to avoid the direct impact of the flames cited on the wall of said combustion chamber before the injection of the hydrocarbon to pyrolize.
