Abstract
1,178,449. Cracking hydrocarbons. CHEPOS, ZAVODY CHEMICKEHO A POATRAVINARSKEHO STROJIRENSTVI BRNO, OBOR. OVY PODNIK. 13 Oct., 1967 [14 Oct., 1966], No. 46819/67. Heading C5E. Hydrocarbons are cracked, e.g. to produce ethylene, propylene or acetylene, by mixing the feed with hot gases formed by reacting combustible gas or vapour with an oxygen-containing gas, conducting the mixture of feed and hot gases to a reaction chamber, and introducing a further supply of oxygen-containing gas into the reaction chamber through a porous wall to react with the mixture of feed and hot gases. Further heat is thus provided during the cracking reaction, and heat loss through the reactor wall is reduced. As shown, combustible gas 9 is burned in burner 1 by oxygen 8 to form hot gases, the temperature of which may be controlled by water vapour 10. The resulting hot gases are mixed with hydrocarbon feed 11, e.g. gasoline, in mixer 2, and the mixture then enters reaction chamber 5, which is bound by a permeable wall 4 located inside a jacket 3. Oxygen 12 under pressure enters the annular space between jacket 3 and permeable wall 12, and passes through the wall into reaction chamber 5. The amount of oxygen may be adjusted to give desired temperature conditions in chamber 5. Products are cooled at 6, and leave via 7. The wall 5 may be frusto-conical in shape, the greater base being at the outlet side.
