Abstract

1394854 Decomposing polymers into liquid and gaseous fuels NIIGATA TEKKOSHO KK 5 May 1972 [26 May 1971] 46776/74 Divided out of 1394851 Heading C5E [Also in Division F4] Apparatus for decomposing high polymers into liquid and gaseous fuels comprises an extruder 11 having a rotatable screw shaft 13, means for heating material in the barrel of the extruder, and a heated pipe 69 for withdrawing decomposition products and extending through a furnace 71 to a burner 79 which heats the furnace. The pipe 69 is heated by a heater 70 wound around it; gas can be supplied through a pipe 76 for preheating the furnace at start-up. Fig. 2 (not shown) illustrates a similar apparatus but in which the pipe 72 is shorter and is intended to supply the decomposition products to the burner 79 as liquid instead of as gas.
