Abstract
1,011,912. Heating water. ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT OF AUSTRALIA Ltd. Oct. 5, 1964 [Oct. 4, 1963], No. 40491/64. Heading F4A. [Also in Division H5] In an electric water-heater for use particularly, but not exclusively, in the dairy industry the storage tank 1 is divided by a partition 2 into a comparatively large lower compartment 3 for providing general washing water at 130-170‹ F., and a smaller upper compartment 4 for providing sterilizing water at about 200‹ F., which compartments are connected by a feed pipe 5 containing a regulating valve 6 that allows a restricted flow of water between the two compartments. Each compartment contains an electric heating element 7 or 8 and each is connected to the float valve controlled cistern 11 by vent pipes 18 and 19. A feed pipe 12 supplies water from the cistern 11 to the bottom of the compartment 3 and a draw-off tap 14 or 15 is provided for each compartment. The storage tank 1 is enclosed by a shell 9 and the space between the storage tank and the shell is filled with heat-insulating material which also surrounds the pipes that pass through the said space. The heater element of the lower compartment 3 may be connected to a time-switch to use overnight off-peak power to reduce running costs.
