Abstract

803,035. Electric water heaters. FORMAN, D., and FORMAN & CO. (PVT.), Ltd. Sept. 11, 1956, No. 27777/56. Class 39(4) [Also in Group XXIX] An electric water heater comprises a tank with connections for the ingress and egress respectively of cold and hot water, a float operated valve for controlling the inflow, an immersion heater and a thermostat disposed along and close to the bottom of the tank, and a closure fitting loosely in a complementary opening in the tank top to serve as a pressure relief valve. As shown, a double-walled tank 1, 2 with insulating 3 has water inlet and outlet connections 4, 12 and an overflow pipe 11 disposed at one end together with a boxlike structure 10 giving access to two compartments of which compartment 7 accommodates an electric heating element 9 and the other contains a thermostat, the heater terminals 9a being located within the box 10. The inlet connection 4 support a float operated valve assembly x (see Group XXIX) within the tank, and when the float arm drops water enters the tank via a pipe 17. The overflow pipe 11 has, within the tank, a portion 11a, Fig. 2a, (not shown), extending downwardly a few inches below the normal water level to prevent egress of steam therethrough. An opening 5 in the tank top giving access to the interior is closed by a loosely fitting lid 6 and the rim flanges 5a and 6a are uninsulated to promote condensation.
