Abstract

1,011,787. Aquaria. E. LAUTENSCHLAGER. Nov. 20, 1963 [Nov. 21, 1962], No. 45771/63. Heading A1A. An aquarium has double walls 10, 11 which house heating and filtering means for the water. From the tank water flows through a setttling chamber 5 for grit and a conduit 3 through a riser 24 having a heating element 26 and a spill-hole 25 into a filter unit 33. Compressed air supplied from a pump 36 through conduit 37 to a tube 34 passes up the tube and through an opening 35 into the tank, thereby drawing water from the filter. In an alternative arrangement water is drawn through a sand covered sieve 7 into a riser 41 by air pumped into a further riser 40 and through an opening 40<SP>1</SP> into the tank. A thermostat 44 controls the heaters and a time switch 46 controls the feeding arrangements. The side walls and bottom may be made of a plastics material.
