Abstract
1300176 Aquarium filter BIOZONICS CORP and PACE PLASTICS Inc 30 June 1970 [25 March 1970] 31588/70 Heading B1D Apparatus for cleansing and aerating aquaria comprises an open topped filtering tank 24 which is attached to the outside of an aquarium T, and houses at least one removable filter cartridge 34, Fig. 3A. Water is syphoned to the cartridge via tube 120 by means of a low pressure area created by a venturi 110 in clean liquid recycling tube 96, Fig. 3B. The syphoning action is also helped by by-pass line 146 which is connected to the venturi. Magnetic pump 71 pumps the clean liquid back to the aquarium. A tube 118 provides an air inlet to the venturi to effect aeration of the clean liquid. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown) the clean water is returned by air bubbles introduced into the filtering tank from a conventional aerating pump. An air stone may be used to break up the bubbles. The filter material may be a foamed block charcoal or filter fibres. The cartridges are slotted into spaces in the tank. One of the spaces may be occupied by a heater, or an antibacterial agent.
