Abstract

1,011,275. Cooking apparatus. I. D. USHER. Oct. 7, 1964 [Nov. 21, 1963], No. 45996/63. Heading A4D. One of the rotary drives to spits or other rotary food supports is arranged to be intermittently operated to provide a dwell period in which the sides of a flat piece of food may be toasted. The food may be supported on removable tray 31, having sleeve 26 engaging drive shaft 10, which may be intermittently driven by pinion 17 meshing with gear segment 16 or continuously driven when the pinion meshes with gear 15. Two further shafts 9 and 11 are continuously driven through gears 13, 12, 14, 15 and 18 electric motor 7. Shaft 8 of gear 15 is movable vertically by means of lever 20 operated by slider 24. In the lowered position of shaft 8 pinion 17 meshes only with segment 16 and gear 15 passes below it but still meshes with pinions 14 and 18. Electric heating elements are provided at the back of a cabinet (Figs. 1 and 2, not shown) having a removable heat resistant glass front, a platform 30 and a mounting plate 6. The heating elements may be swung up from a vertical to a horizontal position beneath the top of the cabinet which then serves as a hot plate.
