998,871. Roasting spits. RADIATION Ltd., and L. H. POTTEN. Nov. 8, 1961 [Aug. 18, 1960], No. 28712/60. Heading A4D. A spit assembly comprises a rotatable spit 10 mounted in a casing with means enabling it to co-operate with parts of, and hence to be attached below, an existing heating assembly such as a gas or electric grill or toaster. A top frame member 1, Fig. 1, has extended sides for suspending the assembly from grill runners below a heat sourse S. Side panels 2 and 3 and a back panel 4 are hinged about the top frame 1, Fig. 4. A bottom grid 5, which supports a drip tray 12, is hinged about the bottom of the back panel 4 and held when assembled by screws 6. A ventilated box 7 houses a geared electric motor, the drive 9 from which engages a spit 10 of square crosssection. A slot 11 provides a bearing for the spit 10. The whole assembly may be folded for storing, Fig. 5 (not shown). The open front may be covered with a sheet of heat resistant glass 13 held by a frame 14 shaped to receive the prongs of a lifting fork. The electric motor may be replaced by a clockwork motor and in lieu of a collapsible assembly a fixed box or casing may be used. An adjustable holder for flat foods may also be provided.
