1,010,310. Making magnetic recording &c. heads. ELECTRONISCHE RECHENMASCHINEN - WISSENSCHAFTLICHER INDUSTRIEBETRIEB - KARL - MARXSTADT VEB. Nov. 9, 1962, No. 42409/62. Heading G5R. [Also in Division B3] A digital read-write head is made by assembling a core member 3 around the slots 12 of a support 2, staple-fashion, winding the assembly between the cheeks 13a, 13b, adding a second core member 4, so that the bow 14, Fig. 5, loops round the coil 5, Fig. 6, and removing the left-hand end portions after mounting the assembly in a slot 10 in a grooved holder 1, Fig. 1, with clearance holes 8, 9 for the righthand end of the assembly and its coil. The slot 10 is prised open to admit the assembly, which is gripped at A, Fig. 1, between the holes 8, 9, and upon removing the left-hand end of the assembly, the core members 3, 4 spring sufficiently apart to provide an air-gap into which a gap-spacer may be inserted. The assembly is then encapsulated into the holder 1. In another embodiment (Figs. 7-9, not shown), the holder is of I-section and a plurality of the holders may be stacked to form a multitrack head (Fig. 10, not shown).
