Abstract

889,794. Magnetic recording &c. heads. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. May 21, 1959 [May 30, 1958], No. 17262/58. Class 40 (2). The core of a magnetic head is forged from round permalloy as per Fig. 1, annealed, wound on the remaining round portions 1, 2 and folded (as in Specification 889,793, where the core is made from a flat strip) as in Fig. 3. The rectangular portion 5 becomes the portion 10, 11, 12, the contact between 11 and 12 providing a magnetic shunt since the magnetic properties of the loop 10 will have been affected by the folding. The width of the portions 3, 4, 5 (Fig. 2) is not less than the diameter of the windings 7, 8, allowing close stacking of the cores in a multiple head. In another embodiment, Fig. 4, the core is made in two parts clamped together away from the gap 9.
