Abstract

1,115,230. Magnetic recording heads; supporting. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. 28 Oct., 1966, No. 48371/66. Heading G5R. A support for an electromagnetic recording head 1 includes a cantilever leaf-spring 5. arranged to bias the head towards a magnetizable surface 6 and to carry the connecting leads 9, and a duct 12 through which air is forced to lift the head away from the surface. As shown, the head consists of a linear array of wound soft iron cores 2 potted in resin with the winding leads 9 taken along the spring 5 for connection to a tagboard or printed circuit 10. The leads 9 may be protected by a cover 11 acting with the spring 5 to form a composite leaf-spring, and the space between the cover and spring resin-filled. The surface consists of a magnetizable film 6 carried on a rotatable drum 7 and is used for recording a matrix of magnetic dots.
