Abstract

908,889. Magnetic recording &c. heads; supporting. BURROUGHS CORPORATION. Aug. 9, 1961 [Sept. 26, 1960], No. 28844/61. Class 40 (2). A stacked head assembly 14, is constructed integrally with a flexible printed circuit member 12 at a point intermediate its ends, by which it is supported adjacent a record 44 according to the resultant forces due to springs 40, 58 and to the air-cushion formed below the surface 60 when the record is moving. During starting and stopping, an arrangement 90, co-operating with an aperture (not shown) in the head assembly 14 provides a temporary air-cushion to hold the heads away from the record. The member 12 provides connections to the head windings on ferrite cores 62 which are pressed into slots 98; after welding the leads, Fig. 7, the assembly is encapsulated in insulating epoxy resin, to an extent shown by shading 116 in a mould 104. A further layer of conductive epoxy-resin is then moulded on level with the head-gaps (Fig. 11, not shown) and the face 60, Fig. 1, finishmachined. Screening plates (Fig. 9, not shown) are placed between the cores and encapsulated with them.
