Abstract
1,010,305. Stencil switches; time switches. MAYTAG CO. Sept. 13, 1962 [Oct. 13, 1961], No. 34960/62. Heading H2B. [Also in Division G3] A programme timer comprising a plurality of switches 30, 30<SP>1</SP> operated by slots 46 in a belt 17 driven by a motor 20 through epicyclic gearing 21 is provided with means for automatically advancing the belt rapidly over predetermined parts of the cycle, for example, to ensure simultaneous operation of switches without the extreme accuracy of alignment of slots 46 which would be required at the slower speed. The switches 30 (shown on an enlarged scale in Fig. 3) comprise contacts 33, 34 bridged by members 36 while the cam followers 44 encounter slots 46. The end 86 of a spring- urged lever 83 is positioned to co-operate with slots 91 near the edge of belt 17 such that the presence of a slot 91 allows the other end of the lever to move into the path of mechanism (Fig. 2, not shown) to effect removal of a friction brake from gearing 21 and produce a higher transmission speed. A retractive plunger 100 may be held depressed manually to give the same effect if it is desired to move the belt 17 rapidly to a certain position in the cycle; this operation also opens a switch 110 to disconnect the power supply from the switches 30, 30<SP>1</SP> until the desired position has been reached. Instead of slots 46, rises may be provided on the belt 17, to lift the cam followers 44.
