Abstract
1,083,800. Time switches. MALLORY TIMERS Ltd. June 28, 1966 [June 28, 1965], No. 28934/66. Heading H2B. A cam 25, having a plurality of tracks 24 for actuating contacts 22 by means of followers 23, is driven in steps by a constant speed motor 11 via an impulsive ratchet mechanism 12 co-operating with ratchet wheel 35 on cam-shaft 44. Motor 11 steadily drives a gear 29 which stresses a flat spring 30 when one of the pins (32, Fig. 2, not shown), thereon is restrained by engagement with the ratchet 35. The pins (32) pass through arcuate slots (34) in gear 29 and when the ends of the slots encounter the pins a positive drive to the ratchet 35 is established which overcomes the static friction thereof and enables spring 30 to impel the ratchet one tooth, giving a snapaction to contacts 22. The gear 29 continues to rotate steadily until another of the pins (32) engages the ratchet 35, whereupon energy is again stored in spring 30 to produce another step of the ratchet 35. A second motor 26 is coupled to the cam-shaft 44 by worm gears (Fig. 4, not shown), and a one-way roller clutch (Figs. 5 and 6, not shown), to provide a rapid drive of cam-shaft 44 to a desired start position.
