Abstract

1,197,245. Time switches. ELASTIC STOP NUT CORP. OF AMERICA. 15 Aug., 1968 [16 Aug., 1967], No. 39126/68. Heading HIN. [Also in Division G3] A programmer for controlling an industrial process comprises a motor 44 for moving intermittently and in synchronism a switch drum 18 and movable contacts 28, 32 of switches 14, 16, respectively, and a solid state switch 42 is actuated after intervals determined by a timing circuit (see Division G3) to energize the motor 44 to step the contacts 28, 32 and the drum 18 between their operative positions. The drum 18 is provided with detachable tappets actuating switches 60 connected to the various devices to be controlled. The solid state switch 42 comprises a silicon controlled rectifier 76 (Fig. 8, not shown). When the motor 44 is energized a rotary switch (92) driven thereby short circuits the silicon controlled rectifier and opens after an interval which determines the angle of rotation of the drum 18 at each stop. To provide the necessary number of actuators for the switches 60 one or more additional switching drums may be arranged parallel to the drum 18 and driven therefrom by belt and pulley gearing (Fig. 7, not shown), or an additional drum may be driven by a further motor energized via a switch closed by the drum 18.
