Abstract

708,931. Actuation of switches; control of motors. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. May 16, 1952 [May 17, 1951], No. 11529/51. Classes 38(3) and 38(5) In an arrangement particularly adapted for controlling two conveyers wherein the second conveyer is fed with material from the first and must be in operation before and during the operation of the first and wherein stoppage of the second conveyer automatically brings about a stoppage of the first, two switches 16 each having a quick make and slow break are arranged in series and are operated to the " on " position by periodic mechanical or electrical impulses, produced by the operation of the second conveyer and arriving at intervals shorter than the delay times of the switches so that the switches remain permanently closed so long as the conveyer is in operation. Should the second conveyer stop at least one switch 16 will open, Fig. 2, and break the circuit to the solenoid 15 controlling a contactor, whereupon the motor 9 driving the first conveyer is disconnected from the line 10. The switches 16 may be mercury switches 3, Fig. 1, operated by cams 6 on a shaft 5 driven by the second conveyer. Alternatively the switches may be electromagnetic relays, operated by electrical impulses and having a delayed break produced by clockwork or the charging of a condenser.
