Abstract
1,009,586. Drying fabrics. L.&.L. MANUFACTURING Inc. April 30, 1964 [May 24, 1963], No. 18088/64. Heading F4G. [Also in Divisions H3 and H5] A process of drying a fabric includes passing the web fabric continually in electrical contact with one or more pairs of relatively widelyspaced electrodes and then in electrical contact with one or more pairs of less widely-spaced electrodes while supplying heat-producing radio frequency energy over branch circuits including the respective pairs of electrodes and the fabric therebetween. An electrode bed 10 containing nineteen grounded negative electrodes 12 in alternation with eighteen positive electrodes 14 is provided along the path of the web fabric 33 so that the electrodes extend transversely between grounded frame pieces 18, each positive electrode being insulated therefrom. Radio frequency energy is supplied from a grounded source to the positive electrodes by conductive plates 24 which are connected to a conductive strip 26. The relative spacing of the electrodes is gradually reduced along the length of the bed 10 so that, as the fabric becomes less conductive with the removal of moisture, it is subjected to a more intense field. An electric circuit which supplies energy to the electrodes is given (see Divisions H3 and H5). Specification 887,618 is referred to.
