Abstract

1323573 Drying by high frequency electrical fields LICENTIA PATENT-VERWALTUNGSGmbH 9 July 1970 [9 July 1969] 33391/70 Heading F4G [Also in Divisions F2 and H5] Fibre material in thread or web form is dried by passing it around a rotatable electrode structure having an air passage therethrough and connected to a high frequency electrical generator comprising a thermionic power valve 18, the power valve 13 being situated at least in part in the air passage, so that heat removed from the valve 18 is used to prevent precipitation of moisture on the electrode parts. The electrode structure comprises interleaving rod electrodes 12 and 11 carried by the peripheries of capacitor plates 5 and 7 secured to insulating plates 6. The plates 6 are interconnected by fan blades 13 which draw air round the valve 18 and expel it through apertures 32 in the cover 10, as the electrode structure is rotated. The capacitor plate 5 is carried by a race 3 journalled on a tube 2 secured by an earthed capacitor flange 9 to the wall 1. Stationary capacitor plates 4 and 8 are supported by insulated leads 15 and 14, 16 and 17 connecting them to the generator circuit (Fig. 2) and directly to the cathode 20 and grid 21. A third insulated lead (not shown in Fig. 1) connects the generator circuit to a supply lead 23 of the valve heater. Switch 24 cuts off the anode voltage and the heater current when the cover 10 is opened. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,126,405.
