Abstract

1,008,514. Electron multipliers. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Feb. 12, 1962 [Feb. 11, 1961], No. 5173/61. Heading H1D. A photo-electron multiplier comprises a plurality of dynodes 3 arranged one behind the other and each having a single inclined slat forming one boundary of an opening in the dynode. The arrangement is such that light can pass through the openings in individual dynodes, but there is no direct light path between the cathode and electron collector of the multiplier. The multiplier may comprise ten dynodes each supported by two pins fused into one of two glass side plates, successive dynodes being supported from opposite sides. Each slat 5 may be at an angle of 50 degrees to the dynode plane, and may have a length equal to twice its width, the latter being 20% greater than the dynode spacing. Each dynode opening may be covered by a metal mesh 6.
