100,792. Pfleumer, F., and Pfleumer, H. June 25, 1915, [Convention date]. Wood, treating with liquids and gases.-Lumber is condensed by submitting it to great pressure in a fluid medium at a high temperature, and under such conditions that the fluid cannot enter the pores of the wood. Preferably, a viscous substance, such as asphalt, pitch, resin, or glue, that will not penetrate into the lumber, is employed as the medium; if a thinner liquid or a gas is used, such penetration is prevented by covering the lumber with a skin of tough elastic material, such as rubber or lead.
