Abstract

A method for producing anthraquinone from anthracene comprises (a) vaporizing and mixing anthracene with an oxygen-containing gas and recycle gas; (b) passing through a reaction zone containing V2O5 at 350-450 DEG C. and 5-10 p.s.i.g.; (c) condensing the anthraquinone thus formed; (d) scrubbing the remaining gases with water; and (e) passing 55-85% of the scrubbed gases to (a) as recycle gas to reduce the oxygen concentration and to maintain it below the inflammability limit.
