Abstract

Fibres are processed and packaged ready for conversion to yarn at a spinning machine by subjecting a plurality of carded slivers to a drafting operation, combining the drawn slivers to form a single sliver, feeding a plurality of the drafted slivers in reverse direction to a further drafting apparatus, combing the material and packaging the product. As described, the output slivers of four carding machines are combined at a draw-box and twelve or sixteen slivers so formed are fed to each of four heads of a rectilinear combing machine, the four heads each being provided with a drafting system. The slivers from the combing heads are passed through a draw-box that may be provided with an autolevelling device. The comber may be provided with an automatic can doffing arrangement.
