Abstract

1,006,611. Safety belt assemblies. G. VAN ESSEN, and T. VAN DUIJVENDIJK. June 13, 1962 [June 14, 1961], No. 22712/62. Heading A3V. A safety belt assembly, for securing a human occupant 1 in a vehicle seat 2 having a back, comprises two fittings 3 and 4 secured to the floor of the vehicle, behind the seat, and connected, respectively to slotted lugs 5 and 6, and a pelvis belt 7, figs 1 and 2 having two portions connected by a quick-release buckle 9, the end of one portion being secured to the lug 5 by a closed loop 8 and the end of the other, e.g. longer, portion 14 being passed through the lug 6 and connected, by a buckle 15, which cannot pass through the lug 6, to a shoulder belt 10 having a portion 11, which passes diagonally across the occupant's chest and is connected, by a buckle 13, to a short strap 12 secured to the portion 14 near the buckle 9. In an embodiment, Figs. 5 and 6, a second shoulder belt is provided. The two shoulder belts cross at the back of the seat and are connected, by buckles 15, to the two portions, 14 and 17, of the pelvis belt passing, respectively, through the lugs 5 and 6. The two shoulder belts cross in front of the occupant and their front ends, together with the front ends of the portions 14 and 17, are connected by a quick-release buckle 18. The occupant can readily dissengage either assembly by releasing the quickrelease buckle.
