Abstract

Posts.-In a collapsible mast or post of the kind adapted to be raised rapidly by means of an endless chain, a pin G', which is so shaped at its end a as to permit of its automatic disengagement from the raising-chain C at the point a', is fixed in the lower end of each tube or section. When the tube F is raised sufficiently, a second tube is introduced into the guide tube without stopping the chain. If another tube is not introduced, the previous tube F simply falls from link to link as long as the chain moves. The guide-tube (not shown) is formed with a vertical slot for the pins G'. The chain passes over a grooved roller c provided with a deep central groove b to allow the passage of the end of the pins.
