Abstract
218,418. Wicksteed, C. April 21, 1923. Wire and cord strainers; ground anchoring-devices.-In a tensioning device for a tennis or other net support of the type comprising a drum operated by a worm, both cheeks of the drum are formed as worm-wheels and are engaged by a single worm. As shown, the upper end of a tubular post A, Fig. 2, is filled by a casting B in which a guide pulley C, tensioning drum D, and worm E are assembled, the worm engaging both cheeks C<4> of the drum. The lower end of the post is reinforced by a rod H, Fig. 4, secured to distance pieces H<1> and depending into a groundsocket. J. The socket J is maintained in a vertical position by a plate J<1> driven into the ground at right angles to the cord. In a modification, Fig. 6, the ground-socket is formed integral with an elongated plate L, one end of which is provided with jaws L<1> which are sunk below the surface and are adapted to be engaged by an earth-screw.
