Abstract

1,006,235. Discharge lamps. COMPAGNIE GENERALE DE TELEGRAPHIE SANS FIL. May 28, 1962 [June 9, 1961], No. 20513/62. Heading H1D. [Also in Division H2] Monochromatic light source comprises a cylindrical envelope 1 containing ionizable gas, two coils 2, 3 surrounding the ends of the envelope and means for respectively feeding to the coils A.C. potentials in phase opposition. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1 the feeding means comprise a transformer having a secondary winding 4 with a grounded mid-point and two terminals 7, 8, the coils 2, 3 being respectively connected between the terminals 7, 8 and ground. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 2 the feeding means comprise a third coil 9 having a grounded mid-point and two terminals 7, 8, the coil 9 being remote from the envelope 1, and a transformer having a secondary winding 4 with a grounded mid-point and two terminals, the coils 2, 3 being respectively connected between the two terminals 7, 8 of the coil 9 and the two terminals of the secondary winding 4. The A.C. source 10 is adjustable. The filling of the envelope 1 can be a mixture of casesium and argon.
