Abstract
<PICT:1005795/C6-C7/1> Finely divided solid fuel for a shaft furnace is suspended in oil and placed in a vessel which is then pressurized to blow the suspension into the furnace. As shown in Fig. 1, finely divided coal is allowed to fall through a fine spray of preheated oil into the mixer, from which it flows intermittently to an intermediate vessel while the latter is vented to atmosphere. Valve 1 is then closed, and the intermediate vessel pressurized to force the suspension into the injection vessel which is itself maintained at a pressure proportional to, and higher than, the pressure in the blast main.
