Abstract

The subsequent separation of higher melting fatty material from glyceride oils is facilitated by the addition of 0.001-0.5%, by weight of the oil, of a sucrose fatty acid ester which contains not more than 5 unesterified hydroxyl groups per sucrose molecule and which contains at least one residue of a C12- 22-fatty acid and at least one residue of a C2- 6-fatty acid, the C2- 6-acids comprising 5-100% by weight of the C12- 22-acids. The oil, which is suitably cotton-seed oil, corn oil, palm or palm kernel oil, hydrogenated soyabean oil, or a directedly re-arranged glyceride oil may either be heated with the additive until all the fatty material present is liquid before being cooled, or, alternatively, the oil may first be completely liquefied by heating and the additive then added. The preferred additive is sucrose tetraacetate tetrapalmitate. Specification 604,136 is referred to.
