Abstract
Sterols are obtained from oils, fats, fatty acids or fatty mixtures of vegetable or animal origin, by converting the starting materials into fatty acid esters with low molecular, univalent alcohols, e.g. methyl or ethyl alcohol, separating these esters for the most part by distillation and isolating the sterols in good yield and in enlarged non-decomposed form by methods already known per se through crystallization or precipitation, using the distillation residue as starting material for the production of these substances. Detailed examples are given. Specification 642,718 is referred to.
