Abstract

1,005,526. Wells &c. CAMCO Inc. Aug. 26, 1964 [Dec. 19, 1963], No. 35043/64. Heading E1F. A well anchor A for locating a packer B in a well bore or casing 5 comprises slips 17 and friction blocks 18 arranged for independent lateral projection and coupled together by springs 33 biasing the respective block outwardly and the respective slip inwardly. During running in on tubing the units of the packer are releasably locked together by a pin 26 on the anchor engaging a bayonet slot 27 in the tubing mandrel 12. The anchor is set by lifting and rotating the mandrel to release the pin from the slot and then forcing the mandrel downwardly so that its part 11 presses on the packer ring 9. The packer is carried bodily downwards forcing an expander 7 to set the slips. After the slips are set the packer contracts axially, its resilient ring 1 engaging the casing. The anchor and packer remain set under the weight of the tubing and are retracted by lifting the tubing, a by-pass 13, 14 opening to equalize pressure on the sides of the packer.
