Abstract

1,004,981. Packages. E. S. & A. ROBINSON Ltd. Sept. 18, 1961 [Sept. 16, 1960; June 1, 1961], Nos. 31981/60 and 19871/61. Heading B8C. A package for articles comprises a card having two panels one of which is apertured and an inner layer or cover of transparent material, the two panels being secured in face to face relationship so that the article and cover project through the aperture. A transparent heatshrinkable plastics film 3 is applied to the article 7 and a sheet 5 of cardboard is folded at a to bring together the inner surfaces of the sheet. These surfaces have a heat sealable film applied to them. The edges of the film 3 are trapped between the two layers of card and heat in the form of hot air or steam is applied to seal the two portions of the sheet 5 together and to shrink the film 3 round the article. In another embodiment a card 10 has a flap 12 cut from an aperture 15 and a film 13 attached at its ends to the card. The article is placed in position over the aperture 15 and the card is folded about a line b so that the article is enclosed by the film and projects through the aperture 15. The tab 12 can be seen from the outside of the package and may bear printed matter. The package may be held closed by adhesive, by stitches or staples. A hanging aperture 17 may be provided. The cover may be part of a bag enclosing the article.
