Abstract
1,004,869. Discharge lamps. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. Nov. 3, 1961 [Nov. 7, l960] No. 39449/61. Heading H1D. A sodium vapour-rare gas discharge lamp comprises a discharge tube 1 enclosed in a transparent envelope 3, wherein a layer of gold, for reflecting infra-red light, is supported on a surface disposed within the envelope 3, the thickness of the layer is from 60 A to 300 A, preferably from 100 A to 180 A, the specific resistivity of the layer is not more than 2.2 x 10<SP>-5</SP> ohm cm., and wherein in operation the surface loading of the discharge tube is less than 0À35 watts/sq.cm., preferably less than 0À25 watts/sq.cm. The gold layer can be on the inner surface of the envelope 3 or on a transparent cylinder 4 between the discharge tube 1 and the envelope 3. The gold layer can be formed by deposition from vapour in a vacuum using a gold-coated molybdenum wire.
