1,004,686. Ohmic resistors. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC AND ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. June 6, 1962 [June 9, 1961], No. 21909/62. Heading H1S. In a rotary electrical device comprising two units such as resistors or switches arranged one behind the other with separate screwing caps 9, 25, the common spindle is formed in two parts, the front part 5 having a reduced ribbed portion 49 which fits lightly in a bore 51 in the rear part 7, and an apertured front contact carrier 57 fits over the non-circular end 53 of the part 7 and is clamped against the shoulder 65 of the part 5. The rear part 7 also has a reduced ribbed portion 67 at its other end and a collar 69 fixed thereon and carrying a radial arm 71 clamps a rear contact member 73 against the shoulder 81, the axial position of the member 73 being determined by a pin 75 and slot 76. The spindle assembly is locked in position by a spring clip 83 in a groove in the front part 5. The contact members 57, 73 have resilient arms 59, 61, 63 (shown only for 57), of which 59, 61 slide over stationary slip rings 43, 41 while 63, when the units are resistors, slides over carbon resistance layers 35, 21. An inwardly bent part 79 of the screening cap 9 serves as a stop for the arm 71.
