Abstract
1,004,613. Negative resistance amplifiers. WESTERN ELECTRIC CO. Inc. Dec. 18, 1961 [Dec. 29, 1960], No. 45243/61. Drawings to Specification. Heading H3T. An amplifier comprises a quarter wavelength line or an equivalent-impedance converting network connected between its input and output terminals with negative impedance devices respectively in shunt between the input and output of the line. It is explained that by this means the amplifier may be matched to the source and the load. In the embodiment described the line is a lumped constant device and the negative resistance of the tunnel diodes used as the negative impedance devices are transformed to the value required for stable operation by transformers.
