Abstract

1,004,195. Hinges. H. WILKE. June 27, 1963 [June 27, 1962; March 6, 1963], No. 25639/63. Heading E2F. A detachable hinge comprises two relatively pivotable components 3, 4 each having an abutment surface 7 for engagement with a corresponding structural member, each abutment surface being formed with at least two recesses 9 spaced in the direction of the hinge axis and each recess having an opening 8 adapted to receive a fastening element 11 projecting from the corresponding structural member and an undercut portion adapted to engage the element after the component has been subjected to sliding movement parallel to the hinge axis, the abutment surface extending completely around the opening of each recess so that when the hinge is secured to the structural members the fastening elements are concealed from view. Preferably each component is moulded from synthetic plastic material and includes a channel-section metal insert 13 disposed so that its base lies in the abutment surface 7 and has parts 10 overlying the recesses 9 to form the undercut portions. Alternatively the insert may be completely embedded in the component. The hinge pin 5 is bonded into the component 3 and fits freely in the component 4 so that the components may be easily separated. The pin may be bare or may be covered with plastic material. The fastening elements 11 are preferably headed screws or studs, but hooks may be used if desired.
