Abstract

[Also in Division F4] A machine for utilising the energy of flow of a tide or a river comprises a series of buoyant vessels 5 rigidly secured at intervals to a braced structure 4 floating transversely of the flow and having propellers 6 at either end operated thereby to convert the energy into heat which is used in a prime-mover 17. The Specification describes various methods of mooring the structure to the shore by a "cantilever" construction as in Fig. 1, by a "fulcrum" constrfuction, by constructions moored to a river bank or on piles, or simply floating, as a ship. [Figs. 4 to 9 and 11 to 15 not shown.] Alternative devices (see Division F4) may be employed in which water pumped by energy from the propellers 6 is caused to generate heat frictionally to drive the turbo-generator at 17.
