Abstract

1,003,954. Filter-presses. R. VIAL, [trading as EBERHARD HOESCH & SOHNE]. March 9, 1962 [March 25, 1961], No. 9265/62. Heading B1D. A plate filter-press comprises a head-piece 10 and a counter-piece 11 with pressing means 12 connected with an end-piece 13. Plates 14 are suspended by eyes 15 on upper longitudinals 16 and each plate is surrounded by a filter cloth 41. When the press is opened, springs 24, acting through cross-bars 26, move the cloth outwardly perpendicular to its own plane and away from the plate, and rockable cylinder scraping devices 28 on a slide or carriage 32, and urged towards the cloth by compression springs 33, are used to scrape filter cake from the cloth. In a modification the cross-bars and leaf springs are located at the bottom of recesses 23. In a further modification (not shown) compressed air is used instead of the springs. The scraping devices 28 may each comprise a scraper 27 actuated from a piston and cylinder, or from a rack and pinion; alternatively cake removal may be effected by a nozzle fed by a compressed air bottle, Fig. 4 (not shown). The scraper may be of a stiff material, e.g. metal or synthetic material, or may be soft and yielding, e.g. rubber or synthetic material, and it, or its holder, may also be combined with a slot-shaped nozzle (not shown) for supplementing the scraping action with a supply of air. After the cake has been released a fluid, e.g. water, may be supplied through the slot-shaped nozzle to rinse the cloth. A coil of wire 40, or loose wire fabric, extending through the whole press in the supply passage may be used to separate the cakes on opposite sides of any one plate from one another.
