Abstract

1.085,728. Filter press. POLYSIUS S.A.R.L. April 8, 1965 [April 22, 1964], No. 14880/65. Heading B1D. In a filter press in which the plates are each joined to their neighbours by pairs of pivoted links 21, 22, the said links support rods 9, 10 which carry the upper edges of sections of filter cloth 7 lining the recesses 5 of the plates, whereby on opening the press and successively moving the plates apart the rods 9, 10 are lowered whereby accumulated filter cake 15 is expelled. Fig. 1 (not shown) illustrates the press, with ram-driven movable head (13), reciprocating chains and pawls (18, 19) for moving the plates, and plate support bars (3) on which lugs (11) of the plates rest and slide. Each plate 1a, 1b has two recesses 5 and a central hole 6, under whose lining 8, cloths 7 are secured. Cement slurry is pumped into the closed press and fills the spaces shown, water passing through cloths 7 and out along grooves (not shown) in the flat abutting faces around recesses 5. In Fig. 3, rods 9, 10 are mounted between blocks 29 on either side of the press, each block 29 being suspended by a rod 26, slidably supported 'by a spring 28 in pin 24 which connects links 21, 22. In Fig. 4, not shown, each rod 9, 10 is carried directly by links 21 or 22, so that rods 9, 10 move laterally as well as vertically when the plates are separated. The links 21, 22 may in this case be telescopic and internally sprung to ensure a resilient support as in Fig. 3.
