Abstract
A red-emitting electroluminescent phosphor consists of mixed cubic and hexagonal crystalline phases of 5 to 50 mole per cent copper activated cadmium sulphide and 50 to 95 mole per cent copper activated zinc selenide. The mixture is fired in a self-generated atmosphere to a temperature within the range of 900 DEG to 1200 DEG C. A bromide coactivator may be added in the form of ammonium bromide. Five specific examples are given and in certain examples the material is stated to be also photoluminescent and in one example also slightly photoconductive.
