Abstract
The invention comprises anthraquinone vat dyestuffs that are free from carboxylic acid amide groups and that contain at least one sulphonic acid group and/or one carboxyl group and at least one triazine ring having attached to the three carbon atoms two anthraquinonylamino groups or one or two vattable ring systems of the anthraquinone series which have at least five fused rings attached via amino and the remaining carbon atom or atoms having attached thereto an alkyl, aryl, primary amino, alkylamino, hydroxy or alkoxy group but no halogen atom. The dyes are made by sulphonating an appropriate vat dyestuff, by hydrolysing a suitable vat dyestuff containing at least one sulphochloride group or by reacting amino-anthraquinones or amino-substituted vattable ring systems of at least five fused rings with halotriazines, reacting any halogen atoms attached to the triazine ring with water, alcohols, alkylamines or ammonia and, if no sulphonic acid or carboxyl group is present, sulphonating the product. The dyes vat-dye and print cellulose textile materials in a variety of shades by the usual vat-dyeing and printing methods. The preparation of certain dyes of the above type but containing no sulphonic or carboxylic acid group and of sodium (11 : 41-diaminoanthraquinonyl-21) benzoxazole-5-sulphonate is also described.
