Abstract
1,003,627. Hydraulic accumulators. OLAER PATENT COMPANY. May 29, 1962 [May 30, 1961; Nov. 25, 1961], No. 20636/62. Heading F1P. [Also in Division F2] An hydraulic accumulator comprises a container 10, Fig. 1, having a mouth, a cover 11 having a spigot portion 19 extending into the mouth, and a flexible separator 27 which has a mouth secured between the cover and the container and is formed with two spaced annular beads 24, 25 adjacent its mouth, the bead 24 nearer the separator mouth being located in a groove in the surface of the spigot and the groove being bounded on one side by an annular land 26, the other side of which engages the other bead 25 so that the portion of the separator between the beads is pre-tensioned. The end of the spigot is rounded where it is engaged by the lower bead or is provided with a second groove for that bead. The end portion of the bead 24 is, in its unstressed condition, perpendicular, or at a small angle, to the axis of the separator and the end of the groove for the bead 24 is at an acute angle so that the bead is deformed during assembly to effect efficient sealing. The spacing between the beads, being less than the spacing between the grooves, stresses the part of the separator between the beads. The cover may be connected to the container by crimping over the end 12 of the container by a ring screwed on to the container, or by a collar engaging flanges on the cover and container.
