Abstract

1,003,273. Door closure. WILLIAM NEWMAN & SONS Ltd. Jan. 24, 1964 [March 29, 1963], No. 12446/63. Heading E2M. [Also in Divisions F2 and G3] The closing rate of a spring-loaded door closing device is controlled by a dashpot, the escape aperture 14 whereof (see Divisions F2 and G3) is regulated by a spring 23 loaded needle valve 18 adjusted by a regulating screw 28 screwed into the valve stem and engaging a fixed abutment; the regulating screw and abutment surface being relatively inclined. A box-like casing 1 is let into the floor and, upon opening the door, springs 2, 2 mounted on a slide 3 therein are compressed by the desmodromic action of cams 4, 5 (see Specification 1,003,272) respectively upon the forked top plate 3<SP>1</SP> of the slide and upon abutment block 8 fixed to the underside of the slide bottom plate 3<SP>11</SP>, as cam spindle 6 is rotated by engagement with a socket or shoe carried by the door. Fluid is admitted to within dashpot cylinder 10, via passage 15 and check valve 16 of piston 11 fixed to the slide 3, as the door opens and is expelled therefrom through aperture 14 to slow down the action of the springs 2, 2 as the door closes. The needle valve regulating screw 28 is adjusted with a screwdriver through an opening 30 in the cover of the fluid casing 1.
