Abstract

[Also in Divisions B6, F2 and G3] A web guide arrangement for retaining in correct relationship with its intended course a Fourdrinier wire or felt includes a carriage that supports a bearing for a guide roll in such manner as to permit the bearing to move in a substantially straight line, movement of the bearing and, consequently, of one end of the guide roll being utilised to correct misalignments. The bearing carriage is mounted by linkages arranged as in Watt's parallel motion and several constructions are described to illustrate arrangements adapted to guide webs running in different planes. For a roller arranged to rotate beneath a horizontally moving web, a bearing carriage 25 is mounted to move in a substantially horizontal plane by being suspended from linkages 30, 35 pivoted at 31, 36 to a frame 20. Also mounted on the frame 20 is an air cylinder 45 provided with a piston 46 and piston rod 47 that engages with the carriage 25 at a plug 60 on which a tension spring 44 is threaded, the other end of the spring being threaded on a plug 56 attached to the frame 20. Movement of the carriage 25 is controlled by a detector that is held in contact with the fabric web and is connected to a valve in the air line to the piston 46.
